TSUBAKI RED PACKET 2019
Ang Pao, or red packet, is a staple of Chinese New Year. Marching on to a new year, TSUBAKI came up with our very own premium ang pao to distribute to our clients and loved ones. This time around, the overall design adopts a bold and contemporary approach, breaking away from the traditional red and embracing modern colours of purple, blue, and rainbow instead.
A lot of effort has been put into the mechanism of our ang pao. Packed in a box set of 6 pieces each, the TSUBAKI 2019 ang pao comprises 3 well-thought-out layers to it. The first and outermost layer is the box. Coated in plain blue, the box is topped off with sophisticated rainbow stamping and embossing. The design of the box is kept simple to surprise the receivers with what awaits within. Upon opening the box, receivers are dazzled with the bright pink second layer which envelopes the 6 pieces of ang paos within. Die cut onto the second layer are three circles, revealing a glimpse of the final and most important layer - the ang pao itself. Adding a bit of fun to it, receivers are able to pull a “mini drawer” of the ang paos out from both ends of the second layer - at each end lies 2 different designs of the packets - 3 of each.
Looking at the innermost layer, which is the ang pao, set against the abstract backdrop of natural elements is a semicircle filled with flora and birds derived from Chinese bird-and-flower paintings. Chinese poets and artists have over the centuries imbued a variety of plants and animals with auspicious meanings and scholarly virtues. What better way to portray the Chinese art and cultural symbol on a Lunar New Year gift? On the other hand, the elements represent the Chinese geomancy, better known as feng shui. According to the Chinese belief, each year features different feng shui elements that determine the quality of energy in the New Year. A Chinese poem written especially for this ang pao has also been inscribed at the back of the packet. The design as a whole, from each illustration to each word, represents our sincere blessings to the receiver for good fortune and health in the coming year.
Design aside, the wonderful tactility and the finishing of the ang pao contributes to the exquisiteness of the end product as well. The TSUBAKI 2019 ang pao embraces the essence of Chinese New Year without neglecting aesthetics, presenting the most intricately-designed gift to our VIPs.
