Alcest album app for iPad

iPad app for Les Voyages de l’Âme by Alcest
During my Master's degree year I tried to find an answer to the lack of tactility in digital music. Inspired by Björk’s Biophilia iPad app, Peter Gabriel’s EVE and a game I played in my childhood: Uncle Albert's Mysterious Island, I created an iPad app for Alcest’s Les Voyages de l’Âme.

I tried to create an immersive experience: a world you can explore while listening to the album. By interacting (tapping, swiping, blowing) with certain elements, you can discover things like the band members, the biography, photos, credits ...

To give the user some guidance, I added some light spots as Alcest often refers to ‘beings of light’. Furthermore, there is an always visible menu button in the shape of a lantern, a key for hints and a feather to show or hide the lyrics.

The design of the app is based on the album’s artwork and the music video for Autre Temps. Using Adobe Photoshop, I created several collages and added hand-drawn elements. Finally, I brought everything to life using Adobe After Effects.
Copy, lyrics, logo and music by Alcest.
Design and demo by me.
This app was part of my final Master’s project: Antenna.
I created a blog where I logged my progress and a final presentation. Both are in Dutch.
