I wanted to try my hand at branching out from my typical art style, which usually utilizes heavy line-work, and try my hand at a more painterly approach. While this particular style was waaaaay out of my usual artistic comfort zone, I must admit that I enjoyed the experimentation process and the learning experience.

 

I decided that I needed a few concept-art style paintings for my portfolio, so jumped right in to the creative process and learned as I worked my way through the project. This particular style is very time efficient, as it only took me four to five hours from start to finish rather than the typical week or more. 

This was created entirely in Adobe Photoshop CS5, using large chalk brushes for the rough base shapes and then refining as I worked through the piece. Refinements were finished with custom brushes (Grass, Rock, Foliage Brushes) but the majority of the work was created with a handful of chalk brushes and hard round brushes.
