La Bambola: Arte Hecho Con Amor

Achieving a distinct eye for detail is an artistic competence that requires consistent practice and a broad imagination. With drawing being a skill that many artists possess, it’s important to understand the quality behind owning what keeps your work original. That is what La Bambola is doing – creating handmade embroidery pieces, with love.

La Bambola has mastered transforming simple sketch work into unique stitches full of life and color. The artist begins her process by drawing out the design she wants to create as an embroidery pattern. She then uses various colors of thread to focus on each section of the drawing until every stitch falls together to create a bigger picture, with a unique ability to obtain specific detail in women’s’ faces.

La Bambola’s artwork is in a category of its own and has touched many people. The artwork is used not only to highlight the beauty that derives from the Latino and Caribbean cultures, but also to openly express ideas and opinions of the artists – such as support for more Latinx artwork and educating and influencing art within children.

Aside from the Beyoncé embroidery portrait, my favorite patterns are those of the pinup girls. One in particular that stands out constructs the image of a semi-naked woman dancing. Using fine, black thread over a blue-green leaf cloth, you’re able to feel her spirit through such a small masterpiece, capturing her mid-move as she confidently bask in her element. That is what makes La Bambola exquisite in its own way – mastering the ability to make something small, feel big.

Inspired by a love of art and people, La Bambola’s main purpose is to bring joy to others. Although the store is currently closed, La Bambola is still open to creating personalized commission pieces for anyone to enjoy.
