Handmade pewter earrings (2013)

These pewter earrings were cast in a two-part plaster mold and finished with hand tools. They are mounted on gold plated posts and are inset with a Peridot gem. Each rabbit is roughly 7x4mm.

The starting point was a block of investment casting wax:

Setting the lower part of my two-part mold. The drill bit will allow me to pull the mold out:
On the right is as the pattern came out the mold. On the left is after grinding the excess material away. From then on I tidied up the pieces with needle files and a craft knife. Pewter is soft enough to to be shaped with hand tools:
