Ridgeview Wine packaging

This module was to select an English Sparkling Wine vineyard and re design the packaging to celebrate the English heritage. I decided to choose Ridgeview wine and researched into the area where the vineyards are located. The vineyards are located in South Downs. The research went on to the wildlife in the South Downs National Park. There seemed to be over populated deer within this region which were being culled due to the damage they cause. This weirdly made me think of the shoot on farms, this is where the hand drawn illustration above stemmed from, what if the hunted became the hunter.
Using Indesign and placing all illustrations and images in, made it easy to play around with the layout. The background colour wasn't used but its show the colour that resembled the ivory paper I printed the wine bottle labels on. This layout was ready to print and stick onto card and construct.
Using 3mm corrugated craft board, it was difficult to score and stick together. It seemed to work however using a hot glue gun and some heavy duty tape. The only problem I had was the side tab threw the squareness out of the box. On hindsight I should of flattened the tab so it wasn't 3mm thick - which threw out the shape.
I decided to use a wax seal kit to try and give that sense of English heritage feel. I had to experiment with a bottle to see how well it would work. Surprisingly it worked well and it was easy to remove from the bottle with a pallet knife and double side tape to the wine box.
I resorted to constructing the box in panels because I didn't account for the folds and the thickness of the box with the Indesign layout. It was extremely difficult to fold the whole printed layout, so i had to cut each panel down and glue together which is a shame because it doesn't give that high quality finish a Sparkling Wine would have.
The pack shot, the packaging and bottle work really well together. The wax seal stamp works nicely with simplicity of the string holding the cork in place. I am glad I ripped the edges of the label as the straight edges didn't go with the cork arrangement.
