Nikka Yuko Preservation and Heritage Study

Preservation and Heritage Study comprised of complete architectural and structural audit of all built components contain in the Lethbridge Nikka Yuko Japanese Garden. Assessment was made on the Tea Pavilion, Azumaya (shelter), Bell Tower, all bridges and the gateways and fencing. Included in the study was a heritage study to establish a statement of “Raison d'être”.
The report outlined the elements requiring restoration and set priorities for the restoration and preservation. Maintaining the building science integrity was a critical to retaining its architectural significance and uniqueness. The restoration plan carefully followed the “Standards and Guidelines for the Preservation of Historic Sites in Canada” as prepared by Parks Canada.
