TONE GUITAR AMP
This personal project was done to explore ideas around creating a modern amp that appeals to a young adult market. The catalyst for this was learning that electric guitar sales have dropped dramatically in recent years.
The aim of the product it to appeal to a young adult market who have probably moved away from their parents but still have limited space. Using tactile, rugged materials with simple styling means it can be moved around a lot without being badly damaged and gives the look at feel of a premium product, different to current amps on the market.
Initial Concepts
Concept Development
Option 1 was selected due to the simple, but distinctive styling which fits the design intent and functional purpose. Option 2 was 2nd choice, though some of the styling could been seen as 'over-retro' and could go out of style. Option 3 was dismissed because although it was an interesting looking object, it didn't match the design intent.
Design Development
The concept was explored in greater scaled detail using illustrator visuals. This gave me a chance to look at variations in forms for the button and dials as well as get a sense of scale for the parts.

The simple form and limited colour palette of the amp makes it blend in to any contemporary environment. Minimal physical dials keeps it easy to use - the further option to connect to GarageBand or similar apps adds more options.
CAD Design
The Tone amp is designed for disassembly, meaning it is also easy to replace broken parts - extending the life of the product.
