El Comedor Parque Explora

El Comedor is a new 450 sq. meter food court that we designed for Parque Explora (interactive museum), in the city of Medellin. Previously it was a space with a single restaurant and a basic array of tables and chairs. Thanks to our Experience Driven Design methodology, we identified a series of aspects to improve at the level of the user's experience and conceived the concept of "Comida conCiencia" which extended the museum’s learning experience to the food court. Using interactive experiences and infographic material created by Explora’s design team, the science behind food is demonstrated for people to explore and learn while they eat or wait.
We redistributed the space to add a greater gastronomic offer, increasing it to a capacity of 4 commercial outlets. To cope with this new offer, we increased the number of seats generating new spaces through custom- designed furniture. The space was given shelter by implementing a vertical garden of 76 sq.mt which helps control the exposure to wind and sunlight. Additionally, we use vegetation throughout the entire space by means of custom designed pots.
Finally, we created a design manual for the intervention of future brands that will be part of Explora, facilitating their entry process and guaranteeing design control and respect for the concept of El Comedor.
