Diploma Project Kadıköy Iskele Mosque Complex//2014

The mosque complex designed at Kadıköy seaside. The mosque complex consists of three basic functions. Firstly, the mosque and religious
functions is located closely to seaside. All necessary elements of religious habits are planned in this area; such as ablution place, Imam’s
room, open prayer area etc. The other funtions of the complex are open public library and open exhibiton places/areas. Because of the younger
population of Kadıköy, the library and recreation spaces seem as an important parts of this complex. Also the exhibition hall could be
used by public to come together or to organize open events. The main worship spaces planned as nearly 400 m2. However, the total mosque
area (including with other functions) takes up 1000 m2 spaces. Contrary to traditional mosque roof system (in Istanbul case dome), the cubic structure for covering and planning was preferred. The historical background of mosque’s shapes were analyzed to understand the tradition, but it was attempted to create unique mosque complex for our time and this certain area.
