For this project, we were commissioned to create an album cover for a musical artist or group. We were expected to base our research on the artist's style, mission, and music itself. I chose to create art for Young the Giant, an alternative rock group originating from my hometown in southern California. My project design is inspired by their previous album covers and the overall sound of their music. When brainstorming my concept, I noticed that their other album covers had a two-dimensional, extraterrestrial, fantasy appearance. Their other album art also had a reoccurring theme of mountain ranges, which I found to mimic the visible mountain ranges from our shared city of origin. I hoped to use these concepts in creating my own album cover. My final rendition maintains the same mountain range and two-dimensional, extraterrestrial theme.
