This is my Honours project for Massey University.
Emerging adults today dont feel prepared for adulthood and independence, essentially, this generation of 18-25 year old dont know how to adult. Things like doing taxes, budgeting, car maintenance and so on, are just an example of the many life skills that emerging adults are confused and unsure about. Its clear something needs to be done about this lack of understanding in the adult world. In response to this, Ive used a human-centred design approach to create #Adulting workshops aiming to to prepare emerging adults for their most valued aspects of adulthood, by providing them with accessible resources. #Adulting transforms a currently daunting user journey, into one that’s accessible, by simplifying overwhelming topics and creating a more enjoyable experience.
WINGING-IT WILLIAMS JOURNEY

I created a user called 'Winging-it William' to represent emerging adults between the ages 20-23 who are living away from home, winging-it through life and freaking out about their future.
TOUCHPOINT 1 - FACEBOOK PAGE

This page is how the user will discover #adulting workshops and become engaged and intrigued, wanting to find out more. The user can get more involved by having their input towards what topics they want to learn about and what questions they want answered.
TOUCHPOINT 2 - WEBSITE

This Facebook page then leads to the website, where the user can register for workshops. They can find out brief info about each workshop and who the facilitator will be.
TOUCHPOINT 3 - WORKSHOPS & BOOKLETS

Finally, the workshops. For this project I created a workshop about taxes and designed everything that would happen at this particular workshop. The challenge was balancing the tensions of accessible and informative as I wanted this workshop to be informative without being too overwhelming and boring, but also enjoyable.
PARTICIPANTS BOOKLET
I wanted these booklets to be completely customisable for the user which is the reason behind the binding. This also means the user can add other booklets from future workshops to work towards creating their own ideal booklet. The user will also receive a sticker for every workshop they go to which gives them another incentive to go and a way of viewing their progress as they build up their collection
FACILITATORS BOOKLET
I also designed a facilitators version which is a lot more simplified and acts as a guide for them throughout the workshop. Their booklet has the exact same content, with some extra prompts added to guide them on what to say and when to say it.
TOUCHPOINT 4 - APP

After the workshop, the user goes to the #Adulting app to register for more workshops. The user can also download booklets and purchase accessories for their physical booklet. Having this format as well as the website, makes it accessible for both the facilitator and participant. This is also where the facilitator can access their booklet which is why the website is also beneficial.
