Wrapping Bicycle Grip

The wrapping bicycle grip was my first attempt to revolutionize an industry - and I almost succeeded.
The concept was simple. Mold a flat grip that could be wrapped around the bicycle handlebar and secured. Cheaper, lighter and cooler (in my opinion) than anything that exists today.
Sketches were created to illustrate the idea.
An x-ray view of the 4 bolt option.
A 2 bolt option was also explored to leave the main grip area free of any possible fingre exposure to hardware.
From the sketched intent, CAD models were created.
The bottom structure was kept as light as possible while acting as a secure clamp.
This SolidWorks CAD model was used to create the mold for the prototype...
Urethane gravity fed casting anyone?

A huge thanks to Mark Edey for helping me build this out and prove the concept. I couldn't have done it without you!
The packing design for this product was a lot of fun. A simple die cut piece of card, printed with some fancy graphics. Fasten the grips through the card and you're ready to rock.
Pedros were one of the organizations who were interested in taking my idea to market however my selling skills weren't what they needed to be. Thank you also to Crank Brothers for your time and consideration.
A simple website was created to help communicate the design to potential investors.

The site was built with Flash. Yes, Flash was pretty cool back then.
To save some dollars, I decided to do all of the patent drawings myself. I'm actually happy I did because I'm very proud of how these turned out.
Unfortunately without being able to land a deal with an organization to help me take the idea to market, I decided to abandon the patent. Starting a family was ultimately more important.
Maybe a date with Kickstarter is in the future?
