La artritis reumatoide es una enfermedad inflamatoria sistémica autoinmune, caracterizada por provocar una sinovitis persistente de las articulaciones, típicamente de las pequeñas, produciendo su destrucción progresiva generando distintos grados de deformidad e incapacidad funcional.

Rheumatoid arthritis can cause the fingers to bend abnormally. In the Swan Neck deformity the joint of the base of the finger is bent, the central joint is stretched and the outermost joint is curved inwards. In the Boutonniere deformity, the central joint of the finger bends inward and the outermost joint bends outward.

La artritis reumatoide puede provocar que los dedos se doblen de forma anómala. En la deformidad en cuello de cisne la articulación de la base del dedo se dobla, la articulación central queda estirada y la articulación mas externa se curva hacia dentro. En la deformidad en ojal la articulación central del dedo se dobla hacia dentro y la articulación mas externa se dobla hacia fuera.
Heberden and Bouchard nodes / Nodulos de Heberden y Bouchard
The protuberances that appear in the distal joints between the hands and fingers are known as Heberden nodules, while the bulges that occur in the middle joints of the fingers are called Bouchard nodules.
