Ivy | Character Design

PROJECT BRIEF
Keen observation, extensive sketching and considered stylisation techniques serve to underpin the profiling, development and styling of a unique character and the world in which they live. Various views and poses are visualised to establish a comprehensive character profile and to capture the figure’s actions and expressions in an appropriate context. Archetypes are chosen to identify the core nature and underlying motivations that drive this character, used as a guide to construct a believable figure in action and in form. The greater theme, narrative and story included should give appeal to and motivate the character’s existence. The created environment should cement further believability in the creation.
DESIGN STRATEGY
Ivy is a character that has been created based on the innocent, rage-filled and maiden archetypes. Her story starts in England during the 1700’s. From a young age she had the strange gift of being able to talk to animals and was banished by her parents to live out the rest of her days in the forest as they feared it may be a form of witchcraft. Since then, she has become the protector of the forest, protecting the animals she loves from the hunters that invade her home. She has grown so accustomed to her new animal friends that she even allows the birds to make their nests in her hair.
