Foundation 2
Semester 1

The Foundation Module at NID is one of the first major courses that all students have to go through. The function of the course is acquaint students with important skills that designers need to have such as visual language and comfort with sketching. It also acquaints students with an understanding of perceptive drawing, isometrics, color, geometry and form.

Human Figures 1
In this exercise, a few students acted as subjects while the rest of the students drew them. In the first round, each pose was allotted only 30 seconds to draw the subject. In later rounds, the time was steadily increased to 1 minute, 2 minutes and 5 minutes.
Below are the sketches made for the 5 minute rounds.
Human Figures 2
The seconds exercise involved a student posing at a location for 2 minutes. At the end of the two minutes, a new student was asked to pose at a different location for another 2 minutes. The rest of the students were to draw the second student in relation to the first. At the end of this process, the first student was allowed to return and a third student was asked to stand at an entirely different location. This process was repeated again and again till the sheet was covered with a melange of overlapping figures.
Human Figures 3
The next exercise was to spread ourselves across the room and draw each other's eyes and ears.
Once we had drawn a sufficient number, we were to select one of the ears and eyes, expand them to a poster size and convert them into a poster with a message. Later we were to convert them into a digital poster.
The last exercise consisted of us having to draw our hands in various "poses". We were asked to come up with interesting new hand symbols and create new meanings for them.
