PORTUGAL IMAGINÁRIO
TURISMO PROPAGANDA E PODER (1910-1970)
I was invited by José Bártolo and Sara Pinheiro to create a piece at the entrance of the exhibition "Portugal Imaginário — Turismo, Propaganda e Poder (1910-1970)" at Casa do Design, in Matosinhos.
For this creation I had as a starting point, one of my favorite pieces from the exhibition, the book "Portugal País de Turismo — Anuário do Turismo do Ultramar". The main focus was to capture the essence of calligraphic styles from that era, roughness and irregularity, and at the same time, trying to accentuate some specific calligraphic details, like ligatures and alternates, combining them together.
