This was a really cool assignment, we got to create our own magazine with whatever content we wanted. I did do a magazine before (scroll down and see assignment 3) which was only 8 pages and taught us the basics of using in design to setup a multiple paged document, character and paragraph styles for super fast font changes and general layout rules such as widows and orphans. BUT in this magazine I could do it how I wanted, I had to source my own articles and images and it had to be BIGGER! I went for 16 pages which felt epic.

The idea for my magazine came from an episode of The Apprentice UK (Which I freakin’ love!), where the task was to create a man’s magazine. This was a particularly tricky task as men’s magazines like FHM and Zoo have been in decline over the past number of years. When they approach a focus group of young men they explained that they are not interested in the dumbed down beer and sex lad magazines and they want smarter articles about making money, success, etc. When the team created the magazine they pretty much ignored the focus group and put a hot semi-naked woman on the cover and very much missed the mark. When I saw this I thought, good god, I could do a way better magazine for men.
