Mate in Four was created for Golf the Galleries a playable, artist-designed mini golf installation that premiered in 2018, at the Sheldon Art Galleries space in St. Louis. The green is a chessboard with garden-size chess pieces set up in a position that can be solved in four moves — or putts! Environmental graphics were created to explain the pieces and their movement and to challenge players to solve the puzzle under par.
