Acrobat on a tightrope.

Recently I found out what a gig poster was and decided to give a try on doing one. I’m not very much into music but have a friend that loves it and she was my main inspiration. This is inspired in a band we both like (but of course, she likes more). If you want to look up the band name is “Los Hermanos” and they are from Brazil. Nobody knows how to specify their style but it’s something among indie, alternative rock, and a bit of Brazilian samba. The colors with little saturation remind us of their calm, soft songs, while the acrobat in the tightrope remind of what they sing in their songs. The title of the made-up band is related to recent political events happening in Brazil during this year.
For the sketches, I first did a brainstorm with words and came up with a feeling. I wanted something that would bring anxiety or the imminence of something that could go really wrong. I draw things representing anxiety and I don’t like heights, so I ended up with the acrobat.
I received feedback on the way I draw the acrobat. That was a really hard challenge and I had to draw her three times plus all the adjustments on anchor points. I took photos of people to study the proportion, did my drawings by hand, drew over them and for now, this is my best work. I also wanted to make it look like it was unusually high from the ground. I tried to draw an audience and because of the feedback I received, I ended up with a simple horizontal line. There are little details I tend to miss when I look for the same thing for too much time. I didn't realize there was a weird tangent formed by her hand and the rope so I fixed that as well.
I never wanted her to look perfectly like a person, but I wanted to try using foreshortening. I’m happy with the results although next time my exercise will focus on drawing more realistic human forms. I liked that the calm colors and the feeling of watching someone on a tightrope are conflicting. I also tried very hard to make up a band name that was not related to the illustration on the poster. I made those letters resembling fuselage from a warplane or something like that. I’m happy with the fact that the styles are different. The title resembles something from the army while the illustration resembles something from a circus.
