The Problem
Every year Malaysia has seen an extensive increase of road users, thus causing traffic jams that become worse over time. Through user research on working adults aged 21 - 40, we found out that Malaysians are more reluctant to take public transport due to various reasons, primarily the lack of convenience to reach most places. Hence, most working adults still prefer to driving are their daily commute option although they are mindful of the stressful situations they have to go through everyday. And moreover, increased amount of driver means increased environmental pollution.
The Solution
A Platform that connects various public transport method and generate the best route available
The Process
Below are the steps that had been carried out throughout the whole project, mainly segmented into 5 stages.
Assess the situation
A set of question were asked during a user interview with a few of the assumed target audiences. The question are set to identify the frustrated moments daily commuters, observed the process of their daily commute experience and find out what are the things that they wish it can be improved. User personas is created to help keeping the user motives in mind throughout the later processes.
Ideation
With the insights we've got from the user research in mind, we've think of product ideas that can help ease the daily commuters frustrated moments. Thus, we came up with an mobile app idea that helps daily commuters to identify the best route options that leverage on the available infrastructure and public transport services that are currently available. To make this possible, the route search will prioritize on rail transport, combining with bus ride and grab/uber ride, in order to get the best solution. Through calculation, the app will also auto determine when to call a grab on the user's behalf to reduce the waiting time to a minimum. Web app is also available as we see most people uses their desktop pc to check for traffic conditions before they leave work.
Implement and iterate
To implement the idea, we have to identify the user journey and what are the possible outcome of using this product, wireframes are then created to identify the elements and pages that are needed. Through iterative design, changes and refinements are made craft the best user journey.
Prototyping and user feedback
With the refined wireframe, we then create a prototype to test with actual users, collect user feedback and make further refinements to the product.
Development
Hi-fidelity mockups are created at this stage. Same as the previous process, using user testing and feedback methodology to iterate design decisions. Design best practices and psychology is also implemented in order to ensure the best user experience is created before going into the software development process.
