Halloween masks of modern fears
Mask is a popular aspect of autumn holidays. The mask is supposed to scare the bad spirits away. So people usually choose the mask of someone or something they think causes fear. Like, ghosts, witches, zombies, or other fictitious creatures. However, most of these are more entertaining than fearsome as they don’t represent current human reality. Godspeed Branding studio designers felt intrigued to encapsulate the fears of a modern person, and how would the masks that reflect them look like. And came up with three main ones.

The Fear of Total Pollution
It’s estimated that an average of 13,000 pieces of plastic and synthetic materials are floating on every square kilometer of ocean. But maybe the ocean is something far away? Unfortunately, a new study suggests microplastics may be widespread in the human food chain. Pollution is real, and it’s not only around us, but inside us now. We should find it very scary. The third mask encapsulates our unjustified fear of being consumed by plastic, the material we so eagerly consume.
The Fear of Being Offline
Do you find yourself holding a smartphone in your hands immediately after you wake up? Do you take your phone to the toilet? Do you choose your cafe according to the wi-fi connection? We all feel pretty much dependent on the internet connection, and going offline without the chance to check the newest updates makes us anxious. Our first mask represents the fear of being offline.
The Fear of Surveillance Cameras
How would you feel if someone was standing outside your window, staring at every action you take? Unsafe, alarmed, perhaps? However, we are monitored everyday, everywhere. Through our phone or computer cameras, on the streets, or other public places. We might have nothing to hide, but no one asked us if we’re ok with being watched in the first place. The second mask is about the fear of CCTV and other Big Brother-like surveillance.
