Halo Reach Map - Monument

Monument
I was very involved with the Halo content creation community from 2010 to 2015. In total, I spent around 1000 hours building maps and game modes. I included this in my portfolio because building these maps taught me a ton about game design and inspired me to seek a career in games.

This map is called Monument. With it, I tried to work the largest buildable space ever released in a Halo game (Halo Reach's Forge World) into a giant 16 vs 16 battlefield. Most Halo maps were designed for 4 person teams, so it was a fun challenge to create a slower-paced outpost-based Halo game.

On the map, two huge bases are separated by a large mountain ridge, with paths leading both over and under the mountains. Each team has three structures of their half of the map: a main base at the back of their zone, a secondary base near the enemy zone, and a lookout tower at a high point in the middle of their zone.
This is the human main base.
This shows the back of the human base. The ramp out the back leads to light vehicles on the beach, and the gravity lift on the top right fires you up the mountain side toward the human lookout tower.
This is the human lookout tower. It overlooks the human secondary base and it protects the human side of the bridge leading between zones.
This is an overview of the entire human half of the map. Unlike most Halo maps, traversal of open space is a primary mechanic and obstacle on this map. Long range cover and management of vehicle resources are necessary.
I added several rock ramps to allow players to traverse cliff faces.
This is a player from the human team climbing the side of this mountain.
This bridge spans the gap between the human and Covenant zones of the map. Players can also cross in a tunnel below this mountain or climb the sides of these mountains on rock pathways.
This is an overview of the Covenant side of the map.
This is the Covenant main base. I tried to design all of the structures in the game to match in human and alien styles shown in the Halo campaign.
The Covenant base features several gravity lift elevators. Building these required using forge components in creative ways.
Vehicles matching the base's race are available to both teams. These vehicles quickly get destroyed and stolen, though, so protecting them is an important game mechanic.
