Graffiti:revenge of street art 2018

My honour to be exhibit with the mighty Joe Artime and Xeva Sb from korea in Wooyangmuseum Ofcontemporary Art .⚠️🏅🎎

The Wooyang Museum of Contemporary Art is celebrating 2018 by presenting GRAFFITI: REVENGE OF STREET ART as its first show. This exhibition will highlight graffiti, a modern genre of painting and a composite art form with great potential and value that has rapidly grown in popularity.

Taking its name from the term “vandalism,” which refers to the act of deliberately destroying or damaging public or private property, including cultural heritage properties and artworks, graffiti has been highly successful in drawing public attention as its artists have actively engaged in collaborative partnerships in a wide range of areas. As a result, it has been embraced as a modern genre of fine art, effectively succeeding pop art.

Graffiti is a new cultural product that gives artists’ the freedom to express themselves without spatial and formal constraints and reinterprets the world in a way that reflects the idea of modern art that anyone can be an artist. The expressive freedom that graffiti offers is reminiscent of that of surrealism, which valued unconscious acts such as “scribbling.”

This exhibition aims to showcase the value of the freedom that is unique to graffiti by bringing “street art,” which has a relatively short history, into the “white cube” gallery.

GRAFFITI: REVENGE OF STREET ART presents carefully chosen works by three graffiti artists—Artime Joe and XEVA, both of whom are Korean, and Kenji Chai, from Malaysia. The works on display reveal the unique personality of each artist and range from graffiti murals painted with acrylic inks to video clips, digital paintings, and sculptures, among others.

We hope that the exhibition provides visitors with a rare opportunity to experience works of graffiti art through both “feeling” and “seeing” and allows them to craft their own stories as artists in their own right.

The Sumatran rhinoceros, also known as the hairy rhinoceros or Asian two-horned rhinoceros, is a rare member of the family Rhinocerotidae and one of five extant rhinoceroses. It is the only extant species of the genus Dicerorhinus.

The hornbills (Bucerotidae) are a family of bird found in tropical and subtropical Africa, Asia and Melanesia. They are characterized by a long, down-curved bill which is frequently brightly colored and sometimes has a casque on the upper mandible. Both the common English and the scientific name of the family refer to the shape of the bill, "buceros" being "cow horn" in Greek. Hornbills have a two-lobed kidney.

The sun bear (Helarctos malayanus) is a bear species occurring in tropical forest habitats of Southeast Asia. It is classified as Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List as the large-scale deforestation that has occurred throughout Southeast Asia over the past three decades has dramatically reduced suitable habitat for the sun bear. The global population is thought to have declined by more than 30% over the past three bear generations.

The proboscis monkey (Nasalis larvatus) or long-nosed monkey, known as the bekantan in Indonesia, is a reddish-brown arboreal Old World monkey with an unusually large nose. It is endemic to the southeast Asian island of Borneo.
