Aeschylia Festival

AESCHYLIA FESTIVAL
_
2018 brings the 44th anniversary of the Aeschylia Festival, in the Municipality of Eleusis, a city where culture is at the very heart of every effort for social, environmental and financial progress. With an eye to 2021, the year in which Eleusis will be crowned European Capital of Culture, the Festival is taking a dynamic claim for the international cultural field. The new, permanent visual identity was designed in such a way as to promote the Festival as a cultural destination, and to frame every form of communication with its domestic and international audience.

Τhe logo
_
The logo marks the distance between two points: the first and the last letter of the word 'Aeschylia'. Multiple interpretations are envisioned in the representation of this relationship.

• The beginning and end of the Festival. The chronicle of a celebration that transforms Eleusis and the audience, who encounter international artistic productions there for three months every year.
• The crossing of the creator and the viewer's gazes. The two 'A's are two eyes meeting in a common field. The line between them ‒ clean and indivisible ‒ represents the rapport between a viewer and a work of art.
• In the conversing 'A's, we see a dialogue between the Aeschylia Festival and its domestic and international audience. This is an institution that has allowed the inhabitants of Eleusis to visualize a different future, overcome the stereotype of a degraded industrial city, and believe in transformation and extroversion. At the same time, the Aeschylia Festival converses with the global artistic community, as one of the most diverse festivals in Greece.
• The counterbalanced 'A's represent Persephone's crossing from the Upper World to the Underworld and vice versa; the myth that links Eleusis to history and symbolizes the circle of life in nature ‒ life, death and the intermediate transformations being timeless artistic themes.
The logo system
_
The logo is transformed into a visual system that consolidates all of the Festival's forms of communication. The relationship between the two 'A's creates a dynamic, changing space that we define as the Container. It is a framework filled with energy, emotion, creativity and faces. In many cases, it becomes a shutter that invites the eye to focus on the core of the experience, on the Here and Now determined jointly by artists and viewers.
