2018 • SILENZIO STAMPA – experimental visual research

2018    SILENZIOSTAMPA is an experimental visual research based on a personal interpretation of the Italian language word pun and the visual issue of "silence" - as sound - in printing and publishing.

It started from a 4'33'' of record - as John Cage - of a "silent" beginning of a working day in office where the main background sounds audible in that moment are - as usual - the printer and the copy machine turned on and random handled paper. Later it turned in a newspaper containing the letters of SILENZIOSTAMPA which configures a kind of encrypted code.
In the middle of it there is a booklet that has the satiric and ironic aim to reveal the hypothetical consequences of a blackout and/or the consequences of a printing manipulation due to news-blackout or censure cases applied on historical facts or invented ones.
Black for SILENZIO and red for STAMPA are the colours used to give a different visual code to the two words and better underline the diptych approach of the artefact.
