Karabash is a city in the Chelyabinsk region with a population of 15,000 people. Karabash appeared in 1822 after the discovery of gold-bearing placers on the site of an ancient Tatar settlement. The name Karabash in Tatar means “black head”. At the beginning of the 20th century, copper began to be mined in Karabash. After several decades of copper ore mining and copper smelting, the city became a zone of environmental emergency. Initially, the plant did not have sewage treatment plants - at the time of the USSR nobody thought about ecology.
