CAN PO' #1 2015
Po' is the longest and larger river in Italy, passing by many historical cities, and rural settlements. During the past, people was used to look at the river as well as a preacious resource as a dangerous destroying force. That is why during centuries, almost all of the riversides have been raised up to 4 m from the water level, in order to protect inner crops and villages. Those high walls keep the river away from any eyes, preventing any public use of spaces near the river banks.
We have been asked from the major of one of those small villages, to find out a way to re-connect his people to the river, despite those 4 m drop from the river bank.
We decided for a wooden structure in black, which acts as a telescope, converging the eyes of pedestrians from the road to the back in a specific point of view previously chosen. Beyond that, a swing was placed at the edge of the high bank, to give any users the impression of flying into the river.
