Vice - Practice Shoot
We did a practice photoshoot for our Vice brief this week where in our groups we took it in turns to be photographer, assistant and model. We were able to use Phase One cameras and get use to them and how they may differ from cameras we have used before.
During the shoot I was able to learn more about how to use Capture One whilst I was being an assistant. I used the focus tool quite a lot to see whether the photos that were being taken where in focus. I also used the white balance tool to correct the colour of the images as at first they were coming out very dark and ill lit. To colour correct I used the grey card. Another tool that I was able to use was the exposure tool, this helped me to see whether the images were over/under exposed. If they were as a group we worked out whether to increase or decrease the F stop on the Phase one camera to be able to get the intended exposure on our images.
For the practice shoot we chose an Orange background, even though for the brief it says that we have to use a grey background, my group wanted to experiment with colour using Capture one and the Phase cameras as this is something that we hadn't done before. Here are some of my favourite shots from the practice.
The middle image was a little more difficult to get than the other two. This was because the model was wearing white which can get over exposed very easily compared to the black in the other photos. We had to adjust the F stop and the brightness/position of the monolights quite a few times to correct the over exposure of the images. It took a little practice but now that I know how to do it, it will help me to get the best quality images when I shoot for real.
