Small and Ordinary
A typographic interpretation of George Perec's essay Approaches to What?

Communication Design
In his short essay Approaches to What? George Perec questions the importance human beings place on the spectacular, as opposed to the circumstances of everyday life. How as culture we are preoccupied by the non-ordinary and the big events. He is encouraging us to observe the mundane, the unnoticed, our daily gestures and habits. Life in the medias are airplane crashes and tragedies. But, life exists outside of the dramatic arena and it is worth to have a look in order to understand ourselves better.
To give a new life to Approaches to What? The students in the Advanced Typography class at LASALLE College of the Arts (Diploma in Design Communication) were asked to create a typographic interpretation of the text. Each student was given two sentences to work with, which at the end of the design process were assembled together to reconstruct the whole essay and make this little book.
