Located in the oldest part of the center of Florence in the small Sant'Elisabetta square, is a museum & a boutique hotel, Torre Della Pagliazza. The origins of this structure, often referred to as the oldest building in Florence that has maintained an original appearance, are uncertain, between the sixth & seventh centuries, although it rests on older foundations, from the Roman era.
La Pagliazza houses an archaeological museum. The excavations returned a considerable number of ceramic pieces, dating back especially to the sixteenth & seventeenth centuries. A first showcase shows a dense selection of fragments from the Roman era found in the oldest layer of the excavations.
