It may be small, yet Griffin Theatre is a mighty voice in Australian theatre. Unfortunately, reputation and excellence are no longer enough to save Griffin from the pressures facing theatre everywhere. With more entertainment options than ever, it’s tougher to attract theatre audiences. Slashes to arts funding are not helping keep the doors open and lights on. Our task was to build a website that could showcase their amazing work – one that would celebrate the diversity of the theatre, from main stage plays to smaller independent events. A website that could truly project the voice of Australian theatre.

The website needed to contain stacks of information, all which had to be easily interchangeable. This meant we needed to take a modular approach. To achieve this, we designed to a modular grid, held together by a distinctive, black keyline. The result alludes to a tabloid experience, showcasing the amazing season-to-season work of the theatre. Furthermore, we celebrated the diversity and vibrancy of the theatre by dialing up the use of colour, and heroing the beautiful seasonal photography, backstage snapshots and social content.
