Seraphim are a kind of celestial being or angel, commonly placed on the upper levels of celestial hierarchy. The name Seraph comes from the Hebrew root verb sarap which means "to burn" and so to an extent, they are known as "the burning ones". Because of this definition, these creatures are associated not so much with literal burning but rather a burning light of revelation or their burning devotion to the will of God. They are often portrayed with having three pairs of wings; two at their ankles or feet, on their backs or shoulders, and a pair on their head which cover their eyes.
