Week 7 - Scale, Texture and Light

TITLE:

1. Small to Big, 2. Big to Small, 3. Light Painting, 4. Natural Texture, 5. Man-made Texture

TECHNIQUE:

Photography using Canon PowerShot SX430 IS

PROCESS:

All of the images were taken on PowerShot SX430 IS and edited in Photoshop. For the first image I sat the van outside my house and took photos from a low angle to make the small object to appear road sized. To capture image 2 I had my mum hold the basketball with her hands out of frame while my brother posed as though he was holding it. I then edited the ball in photoshop to make its positioning of the ball more accurate. For the third image I took about fifty similar photos and chose the coolest looking one, where the hand and lighter were clear to see but the flames were still in movement, capturing this element of movement was very important for the overall affect I wanted for the photo. (Hall, 2012). The fourth photo was taken of sand with a high focus. The final photo is aluminium foil scrunched and hung at eye level.
REFLECTION:

The natural texture image is of sand at Cabarita beach. This photo has the least editing, as I thought the natural aspect was important to keep giving the brief and also the light of the sunrise was very beautiful and soft.
REFLECTION:

The first image was the first I took. I don’t really have any toys or figurines so my Kombi Van piggy bank was my only option. My favourite aspect about this image is the colours. I edited them heavily on Photoshop to give the image more of a warm, summer vibe to match the painting on the Kombi.
REFLECTION:

This image is my second favourite of the five and the most experimental. For the brief of manmade texture I chose aluminium foil. I believe this one is effective as it is uneven enough to be interesting, but still similar enough to appear as a pattern of sorts. (Dabner, Calvert & Casey, 2012). After trailing a few different types of crumples this one photographed the best. The editing gives it more of a sleek look which I really like.
REFLECTION:

This image is my favourite. I chose a different direction in regards to the light play brief and I thought it payed off. I really like the dark contrasts, green hues and overall grungy vibe. Overall, it’s not hard to make fire look cool.
REFLECTION:

The second image was the last, as getting my family to co-operate was a struggle. This is my least favourite image of the five, as I don’t really like the colours in the photo and it originally had very dark lighting which was hard to edit. However, with the task of big -> small I still found it successful.
