Cash Withdrawal Facility - Indian Banknote demonetization 2016
On the 8th November 2016, the Government of India announced the demonetization
of all 500 and 1000 rupee banknotes of the Mahatma Gandhi series.
This was done primarily to curtail the shadow economy
and crack down the illicit and counterfeit cash to fund illegal activity and terrorism.
As a consequence of this announcement, the cash flow is the country reduced drastically,
especially in the ATMs. This led to several difficulties for the common public
who were unable to pay for several services that are available
only with cash transactions.
SPI Cinemas, in an attempt to help the common public,
introduced a facility where the customers can swipe there cards
and collect cash from the front line staff at the theaters.
This facility was called - Cash at POS
