As part of a publishing design course, students were required to create an advertising poster for one of three publishing festivals. I chose to create a poster for the Vancouver Writers Fest.

The following is an extract from my creative brief:
The attendees of Vancouver Writers Fest tend to be of the middle-aged crowd or young children—there’s a noticeable lack of youth and young adults in comparison to other age groups. For my poster I wanted to target [the young adult crowd] in hope that the design will attract the interest of the younger generation who will eventually become part of the middle-aged crowd.
In order to find the right balance between a design that targets kids and adults while attracting young adults, I kept the illustrative style that tends to be used for children with the limit of one main visual subject that can noticed from a distance. I took inspiration from the tagline of the festival—"Reimagine Your World"—and created a visual that reflected it. …
