Following the commissioned project for the Kabbalah Centre in Berlin, Germany, for which Fiona designed and produced the first version of her Morpha chair, proceeded the development of the Morpha 2.0 for the interior use of the URBAN NATION Museum, ‘the Temple of Urban Art’, which officially opened its doors in September 2017 in Berlin.
The intention of the museum has been to archive the development of Urban Art and create a somewhat infrastructure, not only for exhibitions available to the general public, but in addition for the academic work and support for artists themselves. Dynamically, a less predictable interior was formed, containing interchanging vast open spaces required for the exhibiting of larger formats, as well as sequences of smaller spaces which allow for a generally more intimate experience. ‘Street art’ has become the fastest growing and most democratic form of contemporary art today, bringing social activity to a real-time, concrete ‘canvas’ to cities all around the world.
One of the unique features of the Morpha 2.0 chair, as well as the remaining seating elements from the furniture collection throughout the exhibition spaces, is that it is the only moment when the visitor physically ‘merges’ with the interior. A moment in which we become one with the space, and physically part of the exhibition at hand. Hence the challenge was to create a piece that would be elegant and seductive at the same time, however, inobtrusive and thus not distract from the artwork, which of course remains the object of our attention and the ‘star’ of the show.
Morpha 2.0 is produced in collaboration with the leading regional company Artisan, specializing in the hand-made production of only high-quality furniture, made from solid local wood.
