AUDIOVISUELLE IDENTITÄT
EINES URBANEN RAUMES
GERÄUSCHKULISSEN 1 – 3

WOCHENMARKT
BORNHEIM MITTE
Some urban spaces are special in the way they look, how they sound and how they feel. So does the weekly market in Frankfurt Bornheim. I wanted to capture this specific feeling of this place. One morning I took photos of the market and the people. With a mobile audio recorder I recorded sounds and field recordings to capture an impression. Afterwards I modified the recorded sounds and arranged a musical composition in three chapters called "Geräuschkulissen 1 - 3" which means "Sound Sceneries 1 - 3" in german.

The book can be read while listening to the composition and is similar to a musical notation system. Each page represents 3 seconds of the music and informs the listener about which sounds he currently hears. The position of the words on the page are defined by the appearance of the sound they represent in the composition (time on the x-axis) and if its a high or low pitch sound (frequency on the y-axis). The font size is defined by the volume of the sound. The reader gets the ability to identify the specific sounds in the musical composition and gets more information about from what the sound was originally recorded which helps the listener to picture the scenery – an audiovisual identity of an urban space, the weekly market in Frankfurt Bornheim.
Thanks for watching.
