This project was developed for Portojóia Design Prize, a contest for jewelry students, presented each year at Portojóia event, in Porto, Portugal.
The theme of the Portojóia Design Award 2018, Narcissism - "The Need of Me", made me reflect on the presence of social networks in society and the need to express the individuality of each person through them. Even if it means losing some privacy and contact with the inner being.
In this project, the stone is inverted, facing the body, in order to symbolize the love that the self has for itself, and hidden in order to represent the "I" in each of us that protects itself from the eyes of society, but at the same time shows a little of what it is. The adjacent pieces are like walls that want to reinforce the feeling of privacy through a physical barrier that prevents touching the "I", but that becomes useless since this barrier is transparent.
This piece intends to make an analogy to the privacy (or lack thereof) of today, perpetuated by social networks and by ourselves.

O tema do Prémio Portojóia Design 2018, o Narcisismo - “The Need of Me”, fez-me refletir acerca da presença das redes sociais na sociedade e da necessidade de expressar a individualidade de cada pessoa através das mesmas. Mesmo que isso implique perder alguma privacidade e contacto com o ser interior.
Neste projeto, a pedra encontra-se invertida, virada para o corpo, de modo a simbolizar o amor que o “eu” tem por si mesmo, e escondida de forma a representar o “eu” de cada um de nós que se protege dos olhares da sociedade, mas que, ao mesmo tempo, mostra um pouco do que é. As peças adjacentes são como muros que pretendem reforçar a sensação de privacidade através de uma barreira física que impede tocar o “eu”, mas que se torna inútil uma vez que essa barreira é transparente.
