BURLINGTON HOUSE
2018
The brief for this project prescribed a temporary living and work space for a Providence tailor. I began my process by researching the historical context of bespoke tailoring; accordingly, many of my formal choices allude to the practice's history. The building's two volumes, for example, reference the shapes of two city blocks on Savile Row, the London street famous as the birthplace of the craft. Additionally present are a number of conceptual choices that speak to the program of the building. The two volumes that constitute the structure, for example, signify the public and private. Behaving like a Venn diagram, the living and showroom space exist at the extremities while the semi-private workshop exists at their intersection.
