The Curious Origins of the Stone of London

The Curious Origins of the Stone of London

A poster-style piece inspired by the different stories surrounding the Stone of London.

Outlandish stories of the stones origin include: it has been there since the prehistoric era, it was laid by Kind Lud...or King Brutus, it is at the centre of London's Ley lines, Jack Cade hit it with a sword and declared himself lord of the city, kings and queens had to visit it to confirm their reign, the mayor of London is the stones guardian, and that it was a druidic sacrifice stone. It has become a tourist attraction and features in several books as the 'magical centre of London'.

This was a good challenge for me as I wanted to practice my figure drawing, and also experiment a bit with my colouring technique (using a more limited palette and shading with coloured cross-hatching). I think it was a fairly successful experiment and I've entered it in the AOI and London Transport Museums competition this year. Fingers crossed.
