Since 1741 the so called »Gartenfriedhof« [Garden Cemetery] has been one of the most beautiful places in Hanover, Germany. Many myths and legends arise from its graves. One of them is the story of Henriette Juliane Caroline von Rüling whose tomb has been opened by a tree growing next to the grave stone.
This book contains the history of the cemetery from its first appearance in the 18th century to the current situation which is dominated by destructive behavior of visitors and drunk people. It is crisscrossed by the names, birth and death dates and the profession of the people buried there. The history is mixed with the story of Henriette Rüling leaving her broken grave. The project was realised during a course at the University of Applied Sciences and Arts, Hanover in 2016.
