After researching printing techniques I designed and produced this stethoscope T-shirt for a medical student.

 

From it I learnt new tools within Illustrator as well as the screen printing manufacturing process.

 

First a monotone image was inkjet printed on drafting paper and then laid under a mesh screen in a UV lightbox. The mesh screen had a coating that cures in UV light so the areas hidden by my design stayed uncured. After rinsing with water the image appeared and the water was left to evaporate. The final step was to lay out the shirt and force ink through the screen into the fabric.

 

I was pleased with the detail of the result but next time I'll try a coarser mesh and thicker ink to make the colour stand out.
