Design Philosophy - Urban Regeneration Project

For Design Philosophy, in groups, we were tasked with making strategic changes to the surrounding landscape aiming to create vibrant place-making, play provision and making Transition Extreme’s standout as a viable community development enterprise. All visuals were made by me.
The first issue to stand out was that the company had a fairly big identity issue as it initially looks like a random warehouse instead of a skatepark and wall climbing gym.
We made the graffiti wall bigger and match the height of the surrounding walls to act as an extension with the rest of the building to help feel more enclosed and safer.
By taking advantage of the unused space at the back we created a parkour area to reflect the oil industry, a big part of Aberdeen’s relatively recent identity.
To achieve this, we wanted to use parts of old oil rigs to create our parkour climbing frame. This would primarily be used with a volunteer parkour who would also help kids open up about their issues they might be having at home.
To feel more real and fit the atmosphere of a skate park as seating in the sunken fire pit to reflect the oil industry.
