I have made this illustration in 2017 as part of a collaboration with the artist group ZumBleistift (Bochum, Germany). 
My intention was to find out somthing about the design process and the popular topic "Risograph printing". 
We had agreed within the group on the subject of "insect". For me it was inevitable at this time to combine the theme with a matryoshka design (russian dolls).

My illustration process usually starts with exploring and looking for reference material. For this illustration I researched different, usual matryoshka floral designs. After that I sketched out the design, inked it by hand and transfered it to Photoshop. In Photoshop I used spot channels to dgitially color my design and to get a rough preview of my illustration. For RISO printing you have to make master files, which are basically greyscale files. For each used color you need a seperate master. The differnt master file information will be overlayed by the printer to create the unique RISO print look.
