Lighten Up Packaging

This is a self initiated two week project during my second year of university. I decided to revisit my branding project and take the time to properly design the packaging. As the branding brief was only three weeks, most of my time was taken up creating the logo and identity. The brand aims to make eating healthy whilst communiting to work easy.

The idea I came up with was having an interchangeable product where the consumer could pick which healthy snack they wanted each day. I also wanted all of the segments to fit together so they could take more than one and they would interlock.
Originally my plan was to make pyramids and stack them along in a line together. However when I made three of them, they didn't fit when they interlocked. I overcame this problem by measuring the space in between and creating a shape which did fit.

Although this worked, I knew I would have problems later as I wanted to make the segments equal so that the consumer could pick and choose the section they wanted. This wouldn't work for instance if they picked the two end pyramids as they wouldn't fit together. By going through this process I now needed to figure out a way in which all the pieces can be the same shape in order for the product to function correctly.
After some experiements I found that if I made my packaging out of prisms rather than pyramids, I would be able to achieve equal compartments for the packaging. So I made some prototypes to check that it worked the way I wanted it to. So now I have the shape I need to work out how they are going to attach together and the colour scheme etc.
As I didn't know which part I wanted to be clear I did both possibilities to see if I came across any problems, which I did. I have decided to just to have the bottom section clear and I have two reasons for this. The first reason is that the arrow at the top of my logo is quite intricate and hard to cut out smoothly so it doesn't look very visually pleasing. The second reason is that due to the tabs I have created to slot all the compartments together, it doesn't work with the logo being cut out as then the tabs are visible on the inside of the product which I don't want to be seen. It also covers the part which I wanted the consumer to see through.  Therefore I'm going to have the bottom clear instead of the logo.

The other thing I have realised I need to alter is that I need each section to have tabs on each side to ensure that can combine the healthy snacks they want that day.I decided that my product doesn't need to be resealable as the portions are snack size so they would be consumed all in one go. In order to open the product they would lift the front triangle as shown below.
I then went on to use colour within the packaging as I felt this would brighten up the piece.
