Game art for ONRUSH

ONRUSH
I was commissioned by Alan Wardle from AnyForty to create a couple of vector assets for Codemasters' all-action racing game Onrush. What a fun job this was!

My level for inspiration was the Whitewater Canyon, a large river network in a desert. I started brainstorming and sent this bunch of sketches to the client:
The client selected three favourites and I started working on them in Illustrator.

Below you can see a bit of process: I traced the original sketch (1st image) in Illustrator, making sure that all lines are nice and smooth and the overall color scheme is there (2). Most of my work has a faux 3D look (3), but after checking this look with the client, they asked me to create a more high contrast flat look (4), as the artwork was often presented rather small in the game.
Here's a screenshot of how my artwork has been used in the actual game:
I also created some logos for team Fish Heads. Inspiration for this series came from British mod culture, extreme sports and hand drawn tattoos.
Both Al from AnyForty and the Codemasters team were a blast to work with, mainly due to their clear vision and great art direction. Fun times!

Anyone here who has played the actual game? What do you think of it?

Thanks for watching!

Mark
