This was a project done in our second year typography course where we were each given a typeface which we were to analyse, develop a deep understanding of its structure, form and influences and create a small story and three posters based on it. My poster series ended being more of a homage to the typeface, its creator, its history and its influences and also function as a kind of advertisement for the typeface. Eurostile was created in 1962 by an Italian designer, Aldo Novarese, to represent the forthcoming modern age. What really fascinates me about Eurostile is that it's so well known, and has been so present since its introduction in '62...but still never seem to belong to the present. In its early days, it represented the future, and today, it represents the idea of the future from that time period. Its rounded corners and general feel were inspired by early television screens and airplane windows, a good representation of the forthcoming era for which it stood.
