A COLLECTION
Pen on paper | 42x29,7cm

Drawing for the cover of MA Magazine, Porto’s Architecture Student’s Magazine.
This issue’s theme was “Coleccionar” (Collecting).

The drawing is just another collection. A Collection of possible collections.

In the foreground there are the physical collections, the everyday objects that we keep gathering because they have similar features. They are sometimes ordinary objects, such as working supplies, snow globes, stamps, old photographs or movie tickets. Other times they are rare items that fill our ego and soul because they remind us that we are the only ones that can keep them.

Behind these objects we see the more ambiguous, personal and cultural collections. It’s the pieces of art and the memories that build together a possible occidental artistic universe. Almost consensual.
These are all works of art, architecture, literature, cinema and music, that have reached a relevant ground and have become a part of (almost) everyone’s collection.

My choices for the works of art and objects in the drawing come from a personal reflection that tries to be universal. That is why they are questionable and replaceable, they are not definite or try to be.
It is just A Collection, and everyone builds their own.

Thank you.
