I believe that Apple will get rid of the lightning port making a completely wireless device. We truly do not need any ports anymore the “Apple Ecosystem” provides everything. All of your data is already in the cloud. We use lightning only for charging.

Think of your Apple Watch. You charge it at night and it a lasts you throughout the day. The same will happen to your iPhone. You just put it on your wireless charger and forget about it. No more trying to find the lightning port in the dark and dealing with the cord being too short. 

 

I believe that Apple will force the world to evolve by making the iPhone wireless. Qi wireless chargers will be everywhere. 

And with battery and software improvements you won’t need a charger at all.
